Paducah
So, about that wedding in Paducah.
Boy was that a blast. Jon and Jenna set up a photobooth. Funnest. Wedding. Idea. Ever.
Por ejemplo:
- The apprentices fly by night as a group of supervillains.
- Tiffany and Richard’s seemingly beautiful partnership hides deeper trouble.
- I turn red when I dance.
- Check if your dad is watching before you squeeze your friend’s boob.
- No really, Richard: Deep troubles.
- I missed the instruction to “just smile nice”.
- Some photos are just plain cool and don’t need a reason to be linked other than that.
- Some photos are beyond captions.
Of course I took a few photos of my own. I’m no Jon, I’m no Jenna, and my camera is strictly point, shoot, and pray. But hey, here they are anyway.
Beth, Justin: thank you for a great weekend.
P.S.: You are going to have the most beautiful kids on the planet.

Those photographs are amazing! This one is a winner as well:

I feel like I want to tell everybody I know about this! Thanks for sharing! It’d be interesting if you could share a bit about the setup they used. Obviously, there was some serious material involved, the pictures are flaming sharp and the colors are incredibly vivid. I imagine some kind of automatic lighting setup as well. Was it taking pictures at regular intervals, or was there a button to be pressed?
Cheers!

Hi Nico! I agree — I’m always blown away by Jon and Jenna’s work. I asked them to stop by and comment on how they did it; they can describe the setup better than me.

Hi Nico,
Glad you like the photographs. In terms of our setup, here it is…we used a white seamless backdrop as a background. Our main light was an umbrella that was placed just to the left of the camera. (Light was bounced off, not shot through it). We also used a small light with a snoot (long tunnel-like object that narrows the breadth of the light) on the right side aiming at the backdrop. This gave some highlight to the other side of people’s faces, as well as helping light the backdrop further. We used a Profoto studio lighting kit for the setup. We shoot with a Canon 5D, which we set up on a tripod. We used a remote shutter release and just stood there goofing off with people trying to get them to be silly. We shoot weddings as a team, so we can afford to have someone do this while the other person gets all the shots of the reception. As for post production, we ran everything through Lightroom for basic color correction (this is easy because of the white background) and that was it. If you have any more questions, feel free to contact me. My website is http://www.p2photography.net and there’s a contact page there. I’d be happy to chat some more.

Thanks Chris for posting your pics! There are some really great ones. Looking at these makes me want to go back and do it all again! (Not the planning, just the fun!)
Thanks!!!

by the way, Picture 35 (or maybe it’s 38) in chris’s shots of the wedding shows the Photobooth setup pretty well. plus, it’s a totally funny shot. Jude looks like a supermodel.

When Bear’s brother got married, there was a photo booth off to the side, the kind that you feed a dollar for a strip of four photos taken in succession. You took a strip of photos and then decorated a page in the scrapbook with them. Total genius.
