I live in Birmingham, Alabama (USA) - I am so taken with this particular painting since seeing it in a small Catholic Church in a rural town in Georgia where my family was visiting. I did not realize how huge it was. I wish I could see it in person so I was happy to experience it a little through your blog and to learn a little about St Petersburg. Your writing is so engaging! Looks like you guys hit some good places. PS. I hate the 'proof that I was there' picture too, but sometimes I catch myself doing it as well. And then I feel bad. At least there's that. And then I stop doing it for the rest of the day, while I focus on people close-ups. But often I am too shy to ask if it's OK to snap a picture.
